I think I’ve hit some doldrums between work and feeling perpetually on the brink of winter ending and spring beginning. I honestly think I have the Febru-wearies. Even though we haven’t had much of a winter and I’m grateful for the little snow we’ve had, the warmer temps have had me thinking of spring for the last month and a half. It feels like it’s been coming for a long time and I wish it would arrive already.
I’m tired, running late and trying to psych myself into believing it would be a good work day when it just goes haywire. My flat iron breaks and when you’re doomed to a Bad Hair Day, things just don’t look bright.
So what do I do?
I take Dolly’s advice.
Put on your Sunday clothes when you feel down and out
Strut down the street and have your picture took
Dressed like a dream your spirits seem to turn about
That Sunday shine
Is a certain sign
That you feel as fine as you look!
I dress up in a favorite outfit for work, complete with heels (unheard of for creaky-kneed me) and…I feel – better? Happier? Stronger?
I’m not sure. But it helps pick up my day in spite of things – boot zippers and flat irons and work system functions – breaking all day.
And by the end of the day, things are looking up. I’m going home. I got a lot accomplished, even if it wasn’t everything on my to-do list. And to top it all off – I got a bit of a pay raise. Not much, but every little bit helps, especially since I wince every time I stop at the pump and fill my gas tank.
Not a bad day at all.
