Elegant. Delicious. And cheap?

Well, yes, that IS what I was looking for in favors when we planned the wedding. And so I went for simple white favor boxes filled with Hershey kisses. I got the boxes at Michael’s in bulk ($19.99 for 100 boxes) and Hershey kisses in bulk from BJ’s Wholesale. Each box got lined with tissue paper, hand-sized and cut by yours’ truly, then filled with a handful of kisses. I ended up having to run out and buy a few small bags at Walmart because we didn’t have quite enough, but that wasn’t a big deal, really.

For the finishing touch, I managed to drag various family members in to assist with an assembly line. One person cut brown ribbon, another cut cornflower blue ribbon. Another person attached the ribbon to the boxes with double-sided tape. Yet another person melted gold sealing wax onto the ribbon on the top of each box, while lastly another gently pressed a seal with our new family initial (“D”) into the warm wax.

It took a little work, but we were able to get nearly 100 boxes down within a couple hours.

And they came out just as I’d hoped. They looked perfect on the fancy folded napkins (thanks again for all that hard work folding them, Mom and Jon!) and the gold chargers. And…we didn’t spend an arm and a leg on favors that most of our guests forgot to take home with them.
